Tina Stoeberl, owner of College Hill Coffee Co. and Casual Gourmet

chcc_painting_low_resThe new College Hill Coffee Co. opened under the ownership of Tina Stoeberl on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, after a whirlwind of remodeling and repainting, cleaning and organizing, new menu, new hours, added staff and new logo. Tina and 40-some neighborhood volunteers took the place apart and put it back together in nine short (or rather, very long) days –in time to open the doors to waiting customers at 6:30 a.m. January 10.

One of Tina’s goals starting out was to bring live entertainment back to the community, and she’s achieved it. Every Friday and Saturday night, College Hill Coffee Co. features live concerts by an eclectic line-up of singers and musicians – everything from folk, jazz, Broadway, acoustic guitar, Native American or Celtic styles of music, just to name a few. Established stars and newcomers are all greeted by enthusiastic crowds.

IMG_5643Tina also wanted to create a community hub – and today, College Hill Coffee Co. and Casual Gourmet is a cozy, friendly gathering spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus meetings and community events (such as the indoor/outdoor Farmers’ Market, right here every Thursday at 3:00). Every day, customers drop by to purchase unique gifts from a wide assortment, and to share personal stories, discuss local issues and catch up on neighborhood news. In keeping with the coffee shop/restaurant’s slogan – “eat, sip, chat, chill” – customers relax and enjoy fresh, high-quality fare and homemade specialties and desserts, along with dozens of coffees – fresh brewed, fresh ground or whole bean – and teas from around the world.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting – painted trompe l’oeil pillars circle the espresso-colored room; the copper espresso machine is a coffee bar focus; the unique ladies room earns raves; and laptoppers know there’s free Wi-Fi internet access.

We hope you visit us soon!
